13 November is World Kindness Day. We're sharing a story from the studio about what kindness sometimes really is.
Sometimes being kind is just keeping your mouth shut
A girl walked in nervous.
Very nervous.
Luckily she had brought support.
Her mother.
And her friends.
All sweet.
All involved.
All with the same advice:
“You can do this!”
“Come on!”
“Just do it!”
“Don't overthink it!”
The more they tried to reassure her…
the more nervous she got.
At some point the best thing anyone could do was:
nothing for a moment.
Quiet.
Breathing.
No motivation.
No stories.
No “it didn't hurt at all for me”.
Just space.
And then it went fine.
After so many years in a piercing studio you learn something funny about kindness.
It's not always doing more.
Sometimes it's pulling up a chair.
Taking five extra minutes.
Answering one more question.
Or knowing exactly when someone doesn't need advice for a moment.
Kindness can be very quiet.
