The Amsterdam Light Festival begins on 26 November and the city sparkles again. We're watching along, with a small piece of jewellery in mind.
Amsterdam switches on the lights
From today, Amsterdam starts to sparkle again.
Light along the canals.
Reflections on the water.
Artworks you barely notice by day and that suddenly look completely different at night.
We understand that effect.
We see it every day, in a much smaller version.
A customer picks a tiny little stone.
Very subtle.
Almost invisible.
Until she turns her head.
The light hits it.
“OOOH.”
There it is.
That's the fun thing about piercing jewellery.
It doesn't have to be big at all.
Sometimes one small crystal does more than an entire ear full of jewellery.
And maybe that's exactly why the Amsterdam Light Festival suits this city so well.
Amsterdam never needs much to stand out.
A canal.
A dark little street.
A bit of light.
Done.
We do the same.
Only we use an ear.
Sometimes you don't need a spotlight. One small point of light is enough.
