It started with a very simple question.

A customer was standing in front of us, trying to understand something important about their piercing.

Not because the information was complicated.

But because the language was.

And that made us think:

What if everyone could understand their piercing properly, no matter what language they speak?

That one question slowly turned into a much bigger project.

Amsterdam speaks many languages

At Piercings Works Amsterdam, we have welcomed people from all over the world since 1998.

Japanese.
Chinese.
Italian.
Spanish.
Arabic.
French.
German.
Portuguese.

And many more.

Different countries.
Different cultures.
Different languages.

But strangely enough, the questions are often exactly the same.

Is this piercing suitable for me?
How long will it take to heal?
Which jewellery is safe?
How should I care for it?

And perhaps the most important one:

How do I know which information I can trust?

The problem was never a lack of information

There is plenty of piercing information online.

Maybe too much.

The real problem is knowing what is useful, what is outdated and what was written by someone who actually understands piercing, anatomy, jewellery and healing.

After almost three decades in this profession, Ira Lutvica, co-founder of Piercings Works Amsterdam, wanted to make that knowledge easier to access.

Not only for piercers.

For clients.

For the person sitting at home wondering whether that little bump is normal.

For someone trying to understand why one piercing suits their anatomy and another does not.

For the traveller who got pierced in Amsterdam and wants to know what to do when they get home.

So we started writing.

One book became 25 languages

The idea is simple:

one practical piercing guide, eventually available in 25 languages.

Not a technical textbook.

Not a professional training manual.

Just clear, understandable information that helps people make better decisions about their own piercings.

The knowledge stays the same.

The language changes.

Because your body should not become more difficult to understand simply because you do not speak Dutch or English.

And of course, please be a little flexible if you spot an odd phrase or a language mistake somewhere — we’re piercers, not linguists

And no, all 25 books will not appear tomorrow
