Saturday 7 November is Museum Night Amsterdam. While the city walks from museum to museum, we're looking at something smaller: ears.
Art on the wall. Art on your ear.
Tonight Amsterdam walks from museum to museum.
People look at paintings.
Photography.
Installations.
Objects someone has worked on for months.
And meanwhile, we're probably still putting in piercings.
The funny thing is: people walk in here with complete designs in their heads too.
A photo.
Three screenshots.
A Pinterest board.
And then: “I want my ear to look roughly like this.”
We look.
Turn the head a little.
Study the anatomy.
Imaginarily move a piercing three millimetres.
And suddenly we're working on composition too.
Space.
Shape.
Balance.
Only this artwork won't end up hanging on a wall.
It takes the tram home.
A curated ear can grow for years.
First one piercing.
Later a second.
Different jewellery.
One more.
Until it finally all comes together.
So while Amsterdam goes to look at art tonight…
we're probably just looking at ears.
Not all art needs a frame. Some art needs a helix.

What is a curated ear?
An ear that is built up step by step: first one piercing, later a second, different jewellery, one more, until it all finally comes together.
I have a photo or Pinterest board with an idea. Now what?
Bring it along. Together we'll look at your anatomy and at what suits your ear.
